A senior Secretariat official, who is aware of the latest procurement, confirmed to TOI that the two yet-to-be inducted customised cars would be for the use of chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. "We don't know what prompted the police to procure new mine-proof cars, but it is certain they are for the chief minister,'' the official said.
Quoting financial crunch, several important proposals, including procurement of CCTV cameras for the city, were put on the backburner, but the state machinery sanctioned a whopping Rs 2.5 crore for procuring the Toyotas and even the final clearance was given by February 15, just a week before the Dilsukhnagar blasts.
