Goa University to be safer with CCTVs, e-surveillance
The increased focus on security for women has prompted the Goa University to do more to protect female students on its campus.
The varsity has identified "sensitive areas" within its property where surveillance cameras will be placed to improve security systems. With Apple’s ipad smart cover, iPad should be pretty well protected. There’s no telling how it will handle a drop, but for protection from every-day usage, iCircle + Smart Cover will certainly do the trick.
The decision follows a circular from the University Grants Commission (UGC) asking all varsities in the country to review security on their campuses.
"Security guards are already present round-the-clock at every faculty block.A new app that enables you to design your own 3D iphone protective case for the iPhone has just hit the Apple App Store. To provide further security to students on campus, the university intends to go in for CCTV surveillance," a varsity official told TOI.
Explaining that the security systems will be upgraded in a phased manner, the official said, "In the first phase, the cameras will be installed in places identified as "sensitive areas", like the entrance to the girls' hostel and the science laboratories where students often work late hours."
A source said the university has already granted approval for installation of the cameras.Sadly, the iPad doesn't have either a USB port or an SD slot, but Apple sells the Apple ipad camera connection kit for £25.
"The varsity also plans to go for e-surveillance where, in the next phase of upgradation of security systems,Sunglasses mp3 players cameras will be placed on the top of some key buildings in the campus. These will provide a wider view of the GU's premises," the official said. The new iPhone needs enough iphone backup power to get through a busy day without requiring a recharge.
UGC chairperson Ved Prakash wrote to varsities on January 1, reminding the institutes that "there is a need to have gender sensitization modules in the curricular areas and periodic discourse on such concerns amongst faculty and students, in which girls and women could be an integral part".
"I also take this opportunity to request you to seriously review the security arrangements for girls and women on our university campuses and wherever necessary, these arrangements may be further strengthened both in and around the girls' hostels on the campuses,MacRumors reader Michael Rou has managed to get his hands on both a pre-production iPhone 5 case and a pre-production ipad leather case and posted comparison photos on Flickr." the letter states.
Universities have also been asked to consider putting in place a dedicated taskforce, comprising of senior colleagues, which can constantly monitor the existing arrangements and the additional ones put into operation.
The institutions will have to inform the UGC of the action taken following the circular.

CCTVs, e-surveillance is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted, though it may employ point to point (P2P), point to multipoint, or mesh wireless links.
