A
new iPad app launched at Lloyd’s this week is being hailed a
‘game-changer’ and is moving the City institution one step closer to
being paperless.
The app is called X-presso and was developed by
the UK-based technology group Xchanging. The company says app will
enable both brokers and underwriters to work on iPads and cut back on
the paper pushing in the boxes at Lloyd’s.
But, for an
institution as steeped in tradition as Lloyd’s of London, the question
now is: what does this move to embrace technology mean for the
time-honoured tradition of the face-to-face negotiation at One Lime

“This
app helps us to support and reinforce that face-to-face activity,

been able to bring to market such an important ‘first’ for the
insurance market.”
The application allows users to access the
central market repository (IMR or Insurers’ Market Repository) of more
than 25 million insurance documents and stitches together all the
multiple documents associated with an insurance claim in an indexed
file.
The app also allows users to find the critical page quickly
and attach temporary notes to files on during a meeting or phone
conversation.

The
app is expected to be rolled out across the Lloyd’s market over the
